DISQUALIFIED. This town is attractive, prosperous and clean and is located in a desirable location on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Route 98 through Daphne is a impressive tree-lined boulevard. There are many parks and the city has done an excellent job of landscaping. However, the town lacks a well-defined civic center, has no historic district or architecturally-interesting buildings, and has no vintage appeal because it is absent the antiquities found in many of the small towns we recommend. The old center of town is difficult to find. The town lacks character or distinctive features. Would I recommend Daphne for an interesting weekend getaway or daytrip shopping excursion? No. Would I recommend Daphne as a town you should put on your checklist to investigate for a warm-weather relocation or retirement? Absolutely.
