NOVELTY VISIT.

Gold was discovered at Congress in 1884. By 1893, the Santa Fe Railroad passed within three miles of the mine. Today, the community is a skeleton of its former self, and serves as a retirement and bedroom community for nearby Wickenburg. The community now known as Congress is the old Congress Junction. Little remains at the original town site. The two antique establishments at Congress offer an opportunity to stop and stretch your legs between the SmallTownGems recommended towns of Wickenburg (to the south) and Jerome, Sedona to the north.
