This town is situated near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The western boundary of Sequoia National Park is 20 miles east of town. In our opinion, Exeter is the best small town in the huge 10,000-square-mile San Joaquin Valley. It also has the most extensive display of wall murals of any small town we have seen in the United States. Several of their murals are so large, multiple camera frames were required to capture all the images. This outside art is so voluminous, the town thoughtfully provides a Mural Guide to explain its collection. The Exeter Public Library building, a Carnegie library, is on the National Register of Historic Places; it now serves as a community center. Exeter boasts that the surrounding orchards produce the sweetest oranges in the world and as such, is the "Citrus Capital of the World". |
