Jackson, named after Colonel Alden Jackson, was founded in 1848 next to a year-round dependable spring. Jackson is located at the juncture of Scenic Highways 88 and 49.  Reminiscent of the old west, this small town has several saloon restaurants.  The Jackson walking tour is a favorite of visitors to this historic gold boomtown.  Remarkably, the modern Wells Fargo Bank company now occupies the same old structure used by the Well, Fargo & Express stage coach company in 1854! Jackson is the county seat of Amador County.
