Murphys, California
(pronounced murr-fees)
The unusual name of this town comes from the trading post and gold mining operation started by John and David Murphy in 1848. Murphys is easy to navigate, just one long tree-lined street of welcoming shops and restaurants. Murphys Hotel is one of the oldest continually operating hotels in California. Its historic register contains such names as Ulysses S. Grant and Mark Twain. Murphys is located in the Mark-Twain-renowned Calaveras County, between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
