NOVELTY VISIT. This village borders on the Union Pacific rail line, on the northern edge of Mojave National Preserve, west of Searchlight, Nevada. It has a population of only 38 souls. Nipton contains a five-room hotel (originally constructed in 1910), tented cabins, a trailer park, a small general store, and a café that is open on most days. It is a popular spot for motorcyclists, due to the long, empty stretches of roadway to the east and west of Nipton. The town is progressive in the use of renewable energy and claims that 85% of their needs are satisfied with solar power. |
