Sutter Creek, California
This small town is named after pioneer and land baron John Sutter. Sutter Creek was the site of some of the richest 'deep rock' mines in the Mother Lode, and mine tours are still conducted. One of Sutter Creek's most famous residents, Leland Stanford, was President of the Central Pacific Railroad and founder of Stanford University. This town is located on Route 49 just north of Jackson. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
