Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge is a small ski town whose buildings (mostly new) are constructed in the vintage Victorian style.  This has been successfully accomplished, as it is difficult to distinguish old from new in the commercial district.  Breckenridge claims it has the largest historic district in Colorado.  General George E. Spencer formally created the town in November 1859. Spencer chose the name "Breckinridge" after John C. Breckinridge of Kentucky, Vice President of the United States, in the hopes of flattering the government and gaining a post office. The town hosts the Breckenridge Festival of Films, established in 1981.  This small town is about 90 miles west of Denver on Route 9.  EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
