Georgetown, Colorado
|
|
This small town we see today was once the third largest city in Colorado, and was known as the 'Silver Queen of Colorado'. Georgetown is the county seat of Clear Creek County and is a Territorial Charter Municipality. It is home of the Georgetown Loop Railroad, whose open-air train cars afford an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountain scenery. George and David Griffith, two prospectors from Kentucky, founded the town in 1859 during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. It was named "Georgetown" in honor of the older of the two brothers. Georgetown is adjacent to I-70, only 40 miles west of Denver. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
