Redstone, Colorado
|
|
Redstone is an alpine village along the roaring Crystal River, adjacent to Highway 133 (a designated scenic byway), about 30 miles south of Glenwood Springs. This small town is sandwiched between the Crystal River to its west, and dense mountain forests to its east. The historic Redstone Inn is at the upper end of the road that extends to the village residential section. Industrialist John Cleveland Osgood constructed the Redstone Inn for his second wife, Swedish Countess Alma Regina Shelgrem. By the time it was completed in 1902, the estate included servants' quarters, a gamekeeper's lodge, a carriage house, and a greenhouse. The entire small town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are just enough shops and eateries available to compliment the surrounding natural beauty of this picturesque small town. |
