Cedar Key, Florida

This hamlet is located in one of the more remote areas of Florida – over 50 miles west of I-75 in Florida’s ‘armpit’. The old-fashioned fishing village is now a tourist center with several regionally famous seafood restaurants. The village holds two festivals a year, the Spring Sidewalk Art Festival and the Fall Seafood Festival. If you seek a small town ocean setting without crowds, visit Cedar Key. For nature lovers, Cedar Key is in the heart of Manatee country. The Cedar Key islands are named for the Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus virginiana, which once grew abundantly in the area. The Cedar Key Museum State Park depicts the town's 19th century history and displays sea shells and Indian artifacts. |
