Great shopping, dining and accommodations can be found in this small town, located on the mainland side of Amelia Island. It is quite busy on weekends, due to its proximity to Jacksonville and I-95. Appropriately, the Amelia Island tourism website describes this lovely town as “easy to reach, but hard to forget “.Walking tours are available for Historic Centre Street and the Silk Stocking District. The 13-mile-long beaches of Amelia Island are just across the narrow barrier island from downtown. We consider this to be romantic-getaway type of small town destination. Amelia was voted #4 among Top 10 North American Islands by Conde Nast Traveler's 2009 Reader's Choice Awards, making it the highest ranked island destination in Florida for three years in a row. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
