Lake Placid, Florida

 |
This small town advertises that 98% of the global caladium bulb supply originates from local horticulturists; it therefore proudly proclaims itself as the Caladium Capital of the World. The Caladium Festival is held each August. If you enjoy fishing, you’ll be ‘hooked’ on the 27 clear fresh water lakes surrounding this town. One of these, 28,000-acre Lake Istokpoga, is the second largest in Florida. Lake Placid has more than 40 murals painted on buildings throughout the town, earning it the moniker Town of Murals. When we last visited Lake Placid, significant improvements had been made to the appearance of the town. For example, the town now has the most artistic and creative trash receptacles we have seen in America.
