Punta Gorda, Florida
(pronounced punt-uh gored-uh)

The term ‘punta gorda’ is Portuguese meaning “broad point”. An apt description, as this small town is positioned on the corner of Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. Newer upscale housing and some early 1900 homes are available in the historic district. Punta Gorda was severely damaged by Hurricane Charley in 2004, but appears to be rebounding nicely. Fisherman’s Village provides nice restaurants and shopping on a small, non-intimidating scale. If you are an avid beachcomber, you will be disappointed in that the beachfront in Punta Gorda is tiny. |
