Barnesville, Georgia

Barnesville has an interesting and attractive downtown – the community has done a commendable job of historic preservation. This small town has some of the best and largest painted murals we have seen in America. We were so impressed with their historic district marker that we adopted this image as our historic district linkage icon. Buggy Days are held in this small town each September, in celebration of Barnesville’s heritage as the Buggy Capital of the South. Barnesville's nickname is Buggytown as the town produced about 16,000 buggies a year in the early 1900's. Gordon College, a public institution of higher education in the University System of Georgia, has an enrollment of 4,500 and is located in Barnesville.
