Forsyth, Georgia
(pronounced four-sythe)
The main attraction of this small town is the Forsyth Commercial Historic District. This is also the site of the annual Forsythia Festival in the spring. The brightly blooming ornamental Forsythia shrubs consist of seven varieties and flourish in the middle Georgia region. Forsyth is the county seat of Monroe County and was named for John Forsyth, Governor of Georgia from 1827–1829 and Secretary of State under Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. |
