Lebanon, Illinois is just 23 miles east of St. Louis and only 2 miles north of I-64. This small town is the home of McKendree University, the oldest Methodist college in Illinois. The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts and the Looking Glass Playhouse are also in Lebanon. The rustic storefront and quality shops along its historic district make this small town a popular day trip destination for residents of St. Louis. 58-acre Horner Park includes a large fishing lake, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe courts, pavilions and The Trillium Trail walking path. The Mermaid Inn, built in 1830, hosted Charles Dickens during his visit to the Looking Glass Prairie in 1842. |
