Woodstock, Illinois

Your first clue that Woodstock is a high-quality small town is the sound of classical music emanating from speakers in the city park in the center of the downtown historic district. The Woodstock Square Historic District lies in the center of this small town, which is the county seat of McHenry County. Within its boundaries, clustered around the town square and the tracks of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, are found numerous structures of architectural interest. These include: the old courthouse and jail, city hall, the post office, the Woodstock Opera House, two social clubs, and a movie house. We highly recommend this small town as a convenient daytrip or weekend getaway from metropolitan Chicago, as Woodstock is only 51 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop and 32 miles northwest of O'Hare International Airport. Train service is available between Chicago and the Woodstock Depot. The city was named in 2007 as one of the nation's Dozen Distinctive Destinations 2007 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Because of the unusual visual character of its downtown, Woodstock has been featured in numerous Hollywood productions. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
