NOVELTY VISIT The Wapsipinicon River flows through the heart of Independence. This waterway begins in the northern most part of Iowa and eventually flows into the Mississippi River. The showcase of the downtown commercial district is a six-story Wapsipinicon Grist Mill built in 1867. His huge structure is 122 feet long by 62 feet wide and was used at first as a flouring mill. The Mill is operated by the Buchanan County Historical Society and is open for tours and special events during the summer months. |
