The theme of this small town is its Dutch heritage. Its largest annual event is the 3-day Tulip Festival held each May. Its ethnic origins are also celebrated in the architecture of this small town. For example, the visitor’s center is constructed with a small windmill as its cupola. Orange City is home to Northwestern College, a Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the Reformed Church in America. The headquarters of Diamond Vogel Paints is located in Orange City. The town is the county seat of Sioux County. Orange City was founded in 1870 by settlers from Pella, Iowa who were looking for cheaper and better land.
