Walnut's founding Father (Mister McNutt) suffered from a rare medical affliction known as arbor ambiguity, for Walnut is a Peach of a town. Only 2 minutes off I-80 in western Iowa, you have no excuse to drive by this picturesque antique Mecca. As you enter town, pass along a lovely tree-canopied avenue bordered by homes that are “cute as a button”. Then feel the ‘clickity-clack’ that only a brick-paved street can provide. Suddenly you are surrounded by old storefronts bursting at the seams with antiques and oozing with nostalgia. With 16 antique shops, this small town can legitimately proclaim itself as Iowa’s Antique City. Walnut was featured in the February, 2004 issue of Country Living magazine. In June of each year, the entire town is transformed into an antique extravaganza during the AMVET's Antique Walk and Show, which draws 300 dealers and 50,000 visitors.
