small town summary

DISQUALIFIED.      This small town is conveniently located just south of I-70 in eastern Kansas. It is the home of Dwight Eisenhower, 34th U.S. President and commander of allied forces in the WWII European Theatre. Near downtown, you will find the Eisenhower Center complex, which consists of the Visitors Center, Presidential Museum, original Family Home, and the final resting place of the Eisenhower family. Several antique stores can be found in the downtown commercial district. Aboard the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad, tourists can take a short ride from Abilene to Enterprise in 100 year old railroad equipment. While Abilene offers several attractions, the town is in decline. During my last visit there, while walking back to my hotel, I was propositioned. While this could happen almost anywhere, it is not indicative of a quality small town that I would recommend.
