Berea is conveniently located just east of Interstate 75, 40 miles south of Lexington. The town bills itself as the 'Folk Arts & Crafts Capitol of Kentucky'. Explore Kentucky artisan works and their stories in the Berea Center for the Arts exhibit and retail areas, and shop for a wide range of Kentucky products. Kentucky crafted items, recordings by Kentucky musicians, books by Kentucky authors, and specialty foods grown or produced in Kentucky. This small town is the proud home of Berea College, a liberal arts work college founded in 1855. Berea College was the first college in the Southern United States to be coeducational and racially integrated. Berea College charges no tuition; every admitted student is provided the equivalent of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship.
