Shelbyville’s motto is ‘The Gateway to the Bluegrass’. It was founded on land donated by William Shannon in 1792 and named for Kentucky's first governor, Isaac Shelby.  This small town is known as the Saddlebred Capital of the World, and numerous horse shows are held annually in Shelby County. Shelbyville is easy to access; the downtown is just two miles north of Interstate 64, midway between Louisville and Frankfort, in north-central Kentucky. Shelbyville has one of the best tandems of fine commercial architecture and lovely residential Victorian housing we have seen in a small town. The town’s large historic district offers numerous antique shops and specialty shopping. This small town is the county seat of Shelby County.
