DISQUALIFIED.

Abita Springs is a small town on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain, about 40 miles north of New Orleans. It is conveniently located off I-12 in eastern Louisiana. It has been a popular resort spot for New Orleans residents since its founding in 1888. As is reflected in its name, the small town of Abita Springs has historically promoted the alleged curative powers of the water from its natural springs. While Abita Springs is a cute town, there are not enough amenities for us to recommend a visit. Unlike much of the surrounding area, old-growth trees survived Hurricane Katrina. The 8.5 mile asphalt bike path links this small town to Mandeville, LA.
