The small town of Wiscasset is located on the banks of the ocean bay draining the Sheepscot River, in Mid-Coastal Maine. It is conveniently located on Route 1, the north-south artery along the Maine coast. This small town is rich in maritime history. The town Chamber of Commerce proclaims it is ‘Maine’s Prettiest Village’. While this may be a stretch of marketing liberty, the truth is that the coast of Maine has more quaint, charming, beautiful small towns than most any area of the country. Wiscasset is the county seat of Lincoln County. The Chewonki Foundation is a non-profit institution in Wiscasset that runs educational programs with an environmental focus. |
