This small town is only two miles from Michigan Highway 23, and proximate to both Ann Arbor and Detroit. Its downtown section is charmingly located next to the attractive River Raisin spillway and the Old Mill Museum. Historians generally feel that Dundee, Michigan, was named after Dundee, Scotland.
The Old Mill, Dundee's most prominent landmark, was constructed on the south bank of the River Raisin in 1849. It first functioned as a gristmill, then later as a hydroelectric plant. It was saved from destruction several times - including once by automobile magnate Henry Ford. In 1990 the Old Mill was designated a National Historic Place.
Dundee celebrates a German Festival at the Old Mill each March and the Mayfly Music Festival every June in Wolverine Park. The community’s Farmers Market celebrated their grand opening in 2010 and is open every Wednesday and Saturday between May and October.
