Saugatuck, Michigan
(pronounced sawg-uh-tuck)

Saugatuck and Douglas are across the bay from one another. Both are recommended by SmallTownGems.com.
The downtown area of this small town is rather constricted and crowded with tourists, has narrow streets and parking is a problem. If you like a little ‘elbow room’ when you explore a small town, Saugatuck may be a little too congested for you. It affords a water view on two sides, with plenty of restaurants and shops. A Victorian ferry and canoe rentals are available. Saugatuck's primary source of revenue stems from tourism. Though only 1,000 individuals call Saugatuck their year-round home, the population of the town swells to nearly 3,000 in the summer months.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation named Satugatuck/Douglas as one of the nation’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations and the towns host an impressive list of annual events.
Saugatuck is home to the Waterfront Film Festival each June, which was ranked third after Sundance and Cannes by Screen Actors Guild Magazine. The award-winning Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Museum is one of Michigan’s best known museums and is located right on the Kalamazoo River Waterfront.
