Instead of Stillwater, this town should be named Still Waiting (in the 1800's), in recognition of the vintage appeal of this popular tourist stop. The downtown area is quite large for a relatively small town, with an abundance of shopping, sidewalk cafes and other dining. There are more antique and art stores than I could count. Several paddle wheeler ships are ready to board for your cruise on the St. Croix River. Stillwater is often referenced as the 'Birthplace of Minnesota' because in 1848 this town hosted a territorial convention that began the process of statehood. Stillwater is just 20 miles east of Minneapolis/St. Paul and is the county seat of Washington County. Lumberjack Days is Stillwater's annual summer celebration, and is held each July. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
