The good folks in this small town are the friendliest and most gracious that we encountered in Mississippi. Canton is officially on the Mississippi Blues Trail. Its rich blues history is centered around the juke joints of Hickory Street, known to locals as "The Hollow". As a result of the impressive architecture of this town, it has been the film location of several Hollywood movies including A Time to Kill, based on the novel by John Grisham. The town’s historic courthouse square is the biannual venue of the Canton Flea Market Arts & Crafts Show, attracting 100,000 visitors annually. Over $200 million in private and public funding has been invested in the Canton Square District. Canton is the county seat of Madison County. If you seek an inexpensive retirement location with a mild climate, don’t overlook the central Mississippi area.
