Oxford is one of the nicest college small towns you will find in the South. It is the home of the University of Mississippi, affectionately known to supporters as ‘Ole Miss’. The town has an impressive courthouse square with numerous stately buildings. Most have second-story wrought-iron balconies reminiscent of New Orleans. Motorists appear to be very respectful of pedestrians. Famous Oxford residents include Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner. His legacy is one reason that each April this small town conducts The Oxford Conference for the Book. Oxford is an example of the benefits of living in a small college town – it affords a slower pace of life, while providing the academic and sports activities offered by the university. It is the county seat of Lafayette County. Oxford has been named by USA Today as one of the top six college towns in the nation. It is included in the book The Best 100 Small Towns in America. When in Oxford, visit the nearby interesting small town of Taylor. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
