Taylor, Mississippi

Taylor is a small artist village 8 miles south of Oxford. In the center of this village is a short length of rustic wooden buildings. And I do mean RUSTIC – the last coat of paint appears to have been applied during the Eisenhower administration. The Taylor Grocery general store/restaurant is one of only two businesses that still appear to be operating in this set of buildings. In front of this establishment is a quaint sign that reads EAT – OR WE BOTH STARVE. Just down the street is the Big Truck Theatre, a 225-seat barn that hosts three-hour performances the first Saturday of every month. A short distance from the village center is an interesting neighborhood being developed by Plein Air. This compound consists of a large antique store/restaurant with an open grass area and pavilion to its front. Behind this store is a small residential area consisting of approximately 20 small, high quality reproduction vintage southern homes. |
