Arrow Rock is just off Route 41, approximately 15 miles north of Interstate 70 in western Missouri. This small town is located on a bluff above the Missouri River and the Lewis and Clark expedition passed through here in 1804. Arrow Rock is a Missouri State Historic Site and in 2006 was recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations. The site offers a visitors center, museum and walking tours of the town. The musical Tom Sawyer (1973) based on the novel by Mark Twain was filmed here. Arrow Rock State Historic Site consists of 167 acres and overlooks the Missouri River. This acreage provides camping, dining, fishing, picnicking, tours, and hiking/interpretive trails. |
