Founded in 1822, the small town of Lexington sits high atop the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, 30 miles east of the outskirts of Kansas City. Lexington has 130 residential and commercial antebellum structures, and over 30 buildings listed in the National Historic Registry. This small town is the home of the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site and Wentworth Military Academy, the oldest military school west of the Mississippi River. Lexington is the county seat of Lafayette County. It was settled largely by Kentuckians and was named for Lexington, Kentucky. |
