This town is the only original French Colonial village remaining in the United States. Ste. Genevieve is a small town along the Mississippi River, 50 miles south of St. Louis. If you like old – this small town was founded in 1735, and was the first permanent European settlement in what is now the state of Missouri. The Lewis and Clark Expedition camped here in 1803. If you visit Ste. Genevieve, be sure to stop at The Great River Road Interpretive Center / Tourist Information Office on the corner of Market and Main Streets. The Roscoe Misselhorn Gallery is a permanent exhibit and displays a large number of his original sketches of Ste. Genevieve. This small town was named for the patron saint of Paris.
