You can find this small town along the Missouri River, off Route 47, 25 miles south of Interstate 70 in eastern Missouri. Washington was founded in 1799 by the clan and compatriots of Daniel Boone, and is named after George Washington. The town has an impressive 445 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the most in Missouri. The Washington Town and Country Fair has been held every August for over 75 years. There are a dozen wineries and vineyards in the surrounding area.
