A popular daytrip and weekend destination for Kansas City residents. Kansas city is blessed with several such nice towns in its surroundings, but for my money, this small town has the most quaint, charming character. At one time, Weston, ‘Queen of the Platte Purchase’, was the second largest port on the Missouri River, second only to St. Louis. Weston was the oldest settlement in the Platte Purchase of 1836 and was also the farthest western settlement (thus, the origin of the name West Town, later shortened to Weston). Its early prosperity resulted in the quality of construction methods and materials we modern-day visitors now enjoy. Lewis and Clark Expedition camped out near the location of today's city hall. In 1972, a major portion of the early town was placed on the prestigious National Register of Historic Places. O'Malley's 1842 Irish Pub is the oldest brewery west of the Hudson River. The 1,100-acre Weston Bend State Park is just south of town and lines the Missouri River.
