Philipsburg is an authentic and beautifully restored 1800's mining town in the Southwestern Montana Gold Country. It is 30 miles south of I-90. The nearby Discovery Ski Area is visible from town. Philipsburg lies on the 63-mile long Pintler Scenic Loop. With the Sapphire Mountains on the west, the Flint Range on the east, and the Pintler Mountain Range to the south, you'll have a spectacular view no matter which way you look. This small town was Montana's 1998 Tourism Community of the Year. Philipsburg is the county seat of Granite County. The historic Opera House Theatre was established in 1891, and is currently the oldest continually operating theatre in the State of Montana. The town was named after the famous mining engineer Philip Deidesheimer, who designed and supervised the construction of the ore smelter around which the town originally formed. |
