Whitefish, Montana

There is nothing old or historic about this small town, it’s just a high-quality upscale community with the Whitefish Mountain Resort ski area immediately north of downtown. The downtown area is the most attractive for a small town I have seen in Montana. The Chamber of Commerce proudly proclaims its town is “. . . where the highest structures are still trees and wildlife still outnumbers residents.” The spectacular scenery of Glacier National Park is just 20 miles east of Whitefish. As a consequence of its scenic location and attractive downtown, the housing costs in Whitefish are 40% higher than the Montana average. Passenger train service is available on Amtrak's Empire Builder Line. Another desirable feature of this small town is that it lies at the base of beautiful 3,300-acre Whitefish Lake.
