North Conway has the most impressive Victorian train station we have seen in a small town. Directly behind this beautiful train station, visitors can board vintage 1940's passenger cars pulled by a 1921 steam locomotive. During summer months, the Conway Scenic Railroad conducts train rides of lengths from 1 to 5 hours in the beautiful White Mountain's region. North Conway has two covered bridges. If you visit this town in the summer, expect heavy crowds and traffic. Parking can be a problem in this small town. It is a family-oriented town and not recommended for those with an aversion to children or teenagers. Nearby White Mountain National Forest contains the tallest peak in the East (Mt. Washington 6,288 FT.). Set on 95 Acres in the shadow of the White Mountains, the North Conway Grand Hotel bestows upon guests a prime location near ski resorts, kid friendly attractions and New England's largest outlet mall, Settler's Green Village. Chartered in 1765 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, the town is named for Henry Seymour Conway, ambitious son of a prominent English family, who was elected to the House of Commons at age twenty, fought at Culloden, and became Secretary of State.
