Although just a few miles from I-295 and the New Jersey Turnpike, just south of the capital of Trenton, this picturesque small town will quickly escort you back in time. Bordentown's 300-year-old architectural heritage is comprised of a variety of styles dating from the late 1600's through the early 1900's. This town is strongly recommended for stress relief from the rat-race of northern New Jersey. Downtown Bordentown has many book and antique stores lining its streets, with Italian and American restaurants. The town is conveniently accessed via Bordentown Station, only 11 minutes from the New Jersey Transit and Amtrak Trenton Rail Station. Joseph Borden, for whom the town is named, arrived in 1717, and by May 1740 founded a transportation system to carry people and freight between New York City and Philadelphia. |
