NOVELTY VISIT.

Because of the interesting layout of this small town, several western movies, including Young Guns, were filmed here. Does the large cottonwood in front of the hitchin' posts remind you of a hanging tree? Cerrillos is a tiny, but interesting place. Although it is technically classified as a ‘ghost town’, the residents and merchants still benefit from Cerrillos reputation as a relaxing day-trip destination for residents of Santa Fe and Albuquerque. By itself, I wouldn't recommend you travel cross country just to see this little hamlet. But since it's just a stones throw away from the intriguing Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway linking Albuquerque and Sante Fe, you don't want to miss it. While visiting, find your way to the Casa Grande Trading Post, for turquoise, gifts, rocks, minerals and interesting old bottles. Just north of town lies the Cerrillos Hills Historic Park. It contains hiking and biking trails, the ruins of Carbonateville, and Indian petroglyphs.
