This small town has a reputation as an artist’s enclave. The town center is just up the hill from a small quaint train station. Black Mountain is 15 miles east of Asheville, and just a hop-skip-and-jump north of Interstate 40. Black Mountain claims to be the antique and new furniture hub for Western NC. Nearby Camp Rockmont, a summer camp for boys, is the long-time location of the Black Mountain Festival and the Lake Eden Arts Festival. Just a few blocks from downtown is a picturesque municipal park surrounding Lake Tomahawk. Scenic Chimney Rock Park is 30 minutes east of Black Mountain. The town is named after the Black Mountain range of the Southern Appalachians. |
