Pittsboro, North Carolina

This small town is the county seat of Chatham County. The court house, located in the traffic circle in downtown Pittsboro, was destroyed by fire in March of 2010.
Pittsboro was once considered a potential site for both the University of North Carolina and the state capitol. UNC was eventually sited in Chapel Hill and the state capitol was located approximately 30 miles to the east of Pittsboro in Raleigh.
Because Pittsboro is just 16 miles from Chapel Hill, 25 miles from Research Triangle Park, and 32 miles from Raleigh, Chatham County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. This small town was featured in the April 2004 issue of Southern Living Magazine. Although Chatham County is named for William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, Pittsboro is named for his son, William Pitt the Younger.
