Saluda, North Carolina
(pronounced sa-lewd-uh)
Saluda is conveniently located off I-26, just minutes from the South Carolina border. If you happen to be whizzing by on this Interstate, slow down physically and mentally for a respite in this delightfully tranquil small town. A stop in this town will force you to contemplate the perennial question “What’s the rush?” The phrase “cute-as-a-button” could have been invented to describe this small town. Its downtown storefront panorama is a favorite subject for landscape artists. The town festival is named Coon Dog Day, in tribute to raccoon hunting dogs. Near Saluda is Lake Summit, a small picturesque lake, but still big enough to support motor boat recreation.
