Southport, North Carolina

This small coastal town is near the mouth of the Cape Fear River. A popular filming location for television and movies, Southport can be seen in the television shows Dawson's Creek and Spies, as well as movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, Summer Catch, Crimes of the Heart, and A Walk to Remember, among others. Ferry rides to Bald Head Island are available from the Deep Point Marina. The biggest event for this small town is the North Carolina Fourth of July Festival. The community is comprised of six municipalities -- the towns of Caswell Beach, Oak Island (Long Beach and Yaupon Beach) and the Village of Bald Head Island combine for over 28 miles of sandy beaches and some of the most visible lighthouses in North Carolina.
