You will find this small town just off Interstate 40 in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina. Well-marked public restrooms, plenty of shade trees and benches provide a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. The annual Church Street Art & Craft Show is held each October. Waynesville is Haywood County's oldest town and the home of the Museum of North Carolina Handicrafts. Near Waynesville are the attractions of Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, the Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, Pisgah National Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  The Town of Waynesville was founded in 1810 by Colonel Robert Love, an American Revolutionary War soldier. He donated land for the courthouse, jail, and public square, and named the town after his former commander in the war, General "Mad" Anthony Wayne.
