The most impressive aspect of Chardon is its historic large town square, with the landmark Geauga County Courthouse on one end. Chardon is named after Peter Chardon Brooks, who donated land to build the historic Chardon Square. Several nice retail boutiques can be found around the square. Chardon’s most popular event is the annual Maple Festival which celebrates the areas maple syrup industry. These festivities of the syrup season begins at Tappin’ Sunday in March, when the sap is at prime thawing temperature. This town has an active performance art community including work done by the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, housed in the renovated Geauga Theater building.
