Granville is the home of Denison College, a private liberal arts and sciences college, founded in 1831. It has a current enrollment of about 2,000 students. Denison is a strictly residential campus that features a mixture of historic and contemporary buildings. Almost all of its students must live in university-owned housing, which creates a deeper sense of community. This small town also contains Ohio’s second oldest inn (The Buxton Inn).
The Granville Inn is a historic English manor inn. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Inn’s old-world charm, hand cut oak paneling, native sandstone and rural hospitality have made it a destination for great escapes for over 85 years. The Granville Carriage Company provides a horse and carriage hire service that gives passengers a turn of the century feel. The Licking County Recreational Trail passes by this small town. Granville village and township were named by settlers from Granville, Massachusetts and Granby, Connecticut.
