Loveland is about 15 miles northeast of the Cincinnati city limits. It is a popular weekend day-trip and recreation destination for residents of the 'Queen City'. It is situated along the banks of the Little Miami River (designated a Scenic Waterway), and in the summer is a stopping-off point for canoeists and 'inner tubers' on the gently-flowing river. Loveland is also heavily trafficked with bicyclists and roller-bladers along the 78-mile-long asphalt paved Little Miami Bike Path. As a result of these recreationists, it affords ice cream /refreshment stands and a few other retail shops and eateries. Although the town's unusual name comes from the last name of an earlier storeowner and postmaster, the town has capitalized on the 'love' theme. The city's nickname is Sweetheart of Ohio and in 1994 the United States Postal Service debuted its 'Love Stamp' from Loveland.
